Personal Life: Suzanne Collins is the daughter of an Air Force Officer. She currently lives in Connecticit along with her husband, their two children and some feral kittens they found in their backyard. Suzanne has a Masters in Fine Arts, from New York University for Dramatic Writing.
Career: Since 1991, Suzzane has worked on a variety of TV shows as a writer. She was part of the team working for Nickelodean on the Emmy-nominated hit TV Show Clarissa Explains It All as well as The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Little Bear and Oswald. Suzanne also co-wrote the critically acclaimed Rankin/Bass Christmas special, "Santa, Baby!", for which she received a Writers Guild of America nomination in animation. More recently she worked as the Head Writer on Clifford's Puppy Days, for Scholastic Entertainment.
It was whilst working on a Kids WB show called Generation O! that Suzanne came across children's author James Proimos, who inspired her to try and write a children's book.
Suzanne came up with the idea for her first book, Gregor The Overlander, whilst thinking about Alice In Wonderland. She thought that in New York city, one was more likely to fall down a manhole and stumble upon something very different. This idea paved the way for a 5 part book series known as the The Underland Chronicles. The last book in the series was released in 2007.
In September 2008, Suzanne released a new novel, The Hunger Games, the first in a trilogy of books. A year later, in September 2009, the sequel Catching Fire was released. The past year Suzanne has been working hard on the third and final book in the trilogy, Mockingjay, which will be released later this year, on August 24th 2010.
