Elizabeth Banks

Update: Lionsgate just announced "We have no confirmation on Effie right now.' So please treat this as a rumour for the time being".

With the official release date for The Hunger Games bearing down upon us - March 23, 2012 - the frenzy of casting the beloved characters to bring the book to life is in full force.

Quick on the heels of the news regarding the casting of tributes Rue and Thresh, Variety has reported that Elizabeth Banks has been cast as the flighty bureaucrat who escorts our protagonists through the Hunger Games.

As casting continues to roll out we will keep you updated, but for this reporter Ms. Banks is a promising step in the right direction, as next the casting crew faces the challenge of finding Effie a suitable opposite in the drunken Haymitch.

The Hunger Games has a release date set of March 23, 2012.
